A little preview

A white picket fence split the yard like a scribble on paper. On one side, Alex had a row of sunflowers; on the other side, a bicycle stood resting in the grass. A neighbor called Milo lived beyond the fence and kept waving whenever Alex watered the sunflowers. They had been polite acquaintances for weeks but never more. The problem started when a colorful kite got tangled on Milo’s side and drifted back and forth over the fence like a sleepy bird. Alex wanted to help but wasn’t sure how to reach across politely.
